World Bank Board adjourns at U.S. request

"This is a desperate attempt by the United States to buy time. They know he has to go and they just need some time to get it right," said a board member.

US Executive Director Eli Debevoise told the Board, "We need more time to think through the issues."

REUTERS MAY 16- The World Bank board, considering a panel's report critical of bank President Paul Wolfowitz, has adjourned until 2:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) at the request of the United States, bank and board sources said today.

Je Ne Regrette Rien - that is the PW motto. You only need to read through his statements to see that he doesn't believe he has done anything wrong.... Where's Edith when you need her!

Dear Mr Paulson:

In view of the differences between the US and the rest of the Board on what to do with PW, would the United States consider another option beside forcing a vote on PW's future?

Suppose the United States is to put up for sale the shares of the World Bank Group entities it holds, and permit other countries or entities to purchase those shares in an auction?

Of course, with the sale of those shares, the US will no longer have the perquisites such as naming the President, or a reserved Board seat at these organizations.

However, what the US will gain from this sale will be relief from the difficult job of dealing with the PW and Governance issues at the institution.

The administration has its hands full with wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, a prickly relationship with Congress, and this move may offer some immediate relief.

Would you give this some due consideration and as what President Rove, I mean Bush, think of it?

Sincerely,

Neutral Party
