Feedback from staff to Wolfowitz letter

Reuters: Wolfowitz trims daily role, plans staff outreach

Eds note: His letter works best if you play a laughter track in the background

  • Flooded with phone calls? You? May be calls from Cheney and Bush and Riza and Palacio and Daboub and INT and Robin and Kevin. Bring them all to Africa, on your way - all of you.
  • PW deserves the same amount of respect he demonstrates toward the Bank.
  • please don't go to africa. respect our continent.
  • PW's letter - as usual - lacks sense of reality.
  • I hope this is going to be the last letter I have to read from him. Flooded with phone calls? Give me a break!.
  • PW, you have no dignity. No sense of reality. Go away! ...
  • PW: STOP THE NONSENSE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Please just leave. You can take all your loyal employees with you. Who are you kidding??
  • six weeks to meet with and thank his supporters?????
  • PW must be truly out of his mind. Why doesn't he just leave? Does he really think he can still travel around representing the WB? Where is his sense for reality?
  • Who will staff an Africa trip? Is he going to take his loyal staff on a trip with him? We would recommend Robin Cleveland, Ana Palacio, Suzanne Rich Folsom, Juan Jose Daboub, and Karl Jackson.

I think he is now getting proper advice, and that his lawyer's barbaric smear tactics have been thrown out of the window. I hope to see as little of him around. However, there are still question marks on some of the individuals he mentions, including one of the MDs, and some of the VPs (particularly the one who tried to intimidate staff as the scandal first broke). These are as tainted by scandal as he is, because of actions they took to try to turn the Bank into a vehicle for partisan beliefs. Quick action on these should be taken if full sanity and credibility are to be restored.

I am nauseated by this rubbish. Go to Africa after June 30 and stay there. And, so long as you acted in good faith, there is nothing to forgive, is there.

Did PW install a 900 number with the revenue going to him for all that flood of phone calls?

Can someone tell us what is Suzanne Folsom and Robin Cleveland doing at work today?

Did they even show up?

Please don't copy/paste reactions from the internal staff blog. Like Sumir Lal keeps telling us: let's protect the integrity of that space. One of the many reasons why I remain anonymous in the internal blog is precisely because I know it's too likely that sooner or later someone will copy/paste some of what I say elsewhere. It makes me uncomfortable enough even when I AM anonymous.

Thank you for your consideration of this.

No garbage in Africa!
PW, Riza, Marwan,Robin,Suzan,Juan Jose and Karl .....all that garbage must leave the Bank but have nothing to do in Africa!

A quick check at Wikipedia shows that PW has not been updated to show that he has resigned.

Would someone please update the Wikipedia entry on PW?

The transparency with which PW and his cohorts flaunt their moral bankruptcy is stunning. Why should we have faith in his letter when, at the cusp of his self-inflicted downfall, he still had the wits to squander: (i) hundreds of hours of staff time on preparing briefs and conducting logistics for an expected obsolete trip to Europe; (ii) thousands of dollars in travel expenses for reconnaissance by his advance security team and, most importantly, (iii) the institution’s political capital in finagling meetings with high level government officials in Europe who had no desire to fraternize nor be seen with him? It was only to give an appearance of “normalcy” in the office suites on the MC building's 12th floor. The letter’s ambiguity portends dubious motives for the next six weeks. Now more than ever, PW and his gang could launch their most dangerous attack on the Bank and staff. That transition letter was concocted by a demagogue who dares to profess commitment to helping the poor and yet at the same time he squanders Bank resources with abandon in order to spite Bank staff for demanding competent and honest leadership. Regardless of any backroom deals to satisfy the U.S., the Executive Directors still have oversight and supervisory powers and responsibilities over management in order to protect the institution.
